Elegant New Website for an Expanding Business
Set in 75 acres of land in North County Dublin, Courtlough was founded by the Flynn family in 1996 as a shooting facility.
The shooting grounds has come a long way since then and Courtlough has recently launched two additional areas of the business – ‘Outdoor Adventures’ and ‘Events’ which caters for stag and hen parties, school tours and corporate team building days among other groups.
Big Dog was tasked with creating a website which clearly separates their three key areas of business – Shooting Grounds, Outdoor Adventures and Events, whilst maintaining their shooting background and identity.
It was important to Courtlough to stand apart from their competitors in terms of their new Outdoor Adventures and Events offerings and to give the impression of quality, outdoor, healthy, fun experiences as opposed to crazy, adrenaline fuelled, extreme activities.
The project was to consist of a main landing page for the Courtlough Group, which directed users to the three landing pages for Shooting Grounds, Outdoor Adventures and Events.
Each landing page was to be similar in design and structure, yielding the larger group connection whilst standing apart in terms of colour scheme, icons, imagery and offering.
Already a large site for the Shooting Grounds alone, our key objective was to organise content and user flow in a clear and intuitive way, with the end goal of directing users to book activities either through a third party booking system, a custom event builder, or by phoning Courtlough.
The Shooting Grounds area retained its’ elegant, country living feel and is geared towards members, whilst large impactful imagery and rich colour schemes were used for the Adventure and Events areas with multiple blended, loud images being avoided to set Courtlough apart.
Each landing area and respective inner pages have a distinct colour scheme to assist with navigation and a clear, one-click pathway back to the overall Courtlough Group landing page is ever present.
A clear user interface is used throughout with clearly defined calls to action.
The experience on mobile is consistent with the standards of desktop and best practice principles allow the user to navigate and carry out key tasks as easily on any device, as on desktop.
Twitter Bootstrap provides our grid system of choice and was used to build the HTML templates from Cathal’s designs.
The HTML was used to create individual modules through our own WordPress theme framework. This allows us to build efficiently and Courtlough to manage their website through a simple UI.
An interface for managing Activities and Packages was also built and integrated with Courtlough’s online booking system, which is powered by Bookeo.
A Custom Event Builder using Gravity Forms was created to complement the set event packages and encourage groups to book extras such as transport, lunch, drinks etc.
